Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited

  • To save energy, escalator, lighting and air-conditioning in some parts of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre are adjusted or switched off according to usage rates

  • A comprehensive and cost-effective environmental plan to conserve energy and recycle and reuse materials within the office, public and rental areas of the centre is developed. Significant reduction in energy usage and waste has been achieved

  • Places waste recycling bins in different locations of the centre and ask event organizers to hang up large visible signage to indicate their locations

Hip Hing Construction Company Limited

  • Employs the precast construction technology to reduce timber framework, water consumption and dust pollution; and minimize construction disturbances and noise by reducing the overall construction period

  • Provides environmental mitigation facilities including wastewater treatment plant, wheel washing machine, noise barrier and automatic mechanical cover for trucks to minimize environmental impact arising from its building work

  • Reuses and recycles construction wastes like timber and metal on its sites

  • Adopts green roof at site offices to lower the energy consumption arising from the air-conditioning system which can reduce carbon emissions

New World First Ferry Services Limited

  • Adopts environmental friendly design in vessels including:

    • Tinted glass panel in cabin, which reduces light and heat from the sun, thus reducing demand for air conditioning in summer and energy consumption

    • Non-toxic anti-fouling paint on bottom hull containing no Tributyl tin (TBT) which is toxic to marine life. The paint coating's self-polishing and smoothing mechanisms prevent organisms such as barnacles and weed from building up on the underwater hull and reduces resistance, hence help save fuel and reduce emission.

    • Environmentally-friendly engine which complies with the International Maritime Organization's "Regulation For The Preventing Of Air Pollution From Ships". It is fitted with electronic control and fuel-oil-common-rail systems which achieve significant reduction of soot emission at low engine speeds and low fuel consumption over the entire performance range

    • Awarded the Energywi$e Label - Class of Good and Wastewi$e Label - Class of Good in the Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence organized by Hong Kong Productivity Council in 2009

    • Three vessels (First Ferry III, First Ferry VIII and Xin Ying) participated in the trial of ultra low Sulplur diesel (ULSD) on local ferries launched by Environmental Protection Department (EPD) in August 2009. The trial will last for nine months, seeking to explore the technical feasibility of switching to ULSD and to examine the impact on ferry operation, with a view to mapping out the way forward in promoting the use of cleaner fuels

KLPS Group Limited

  • Raises environmental awareness of staff and contractors by activities like outing and quiz

  • Issued "Guidelines on Environmental Friendly Measures" to staff in 2006

  • Collects and recycles chemical waste and used lubrication oil

New World First Bus Services Limited / Citybus Limited

  • A number of Euro IV and Euro V green buses have been introduced to improve emissions. A total of 66 Euro IV green buses was deployed into services in 2009, and 124 Euro V green buses have been ordered to start serving commuters from 2010 in phases. The "Diesel Particulate Filter programme" of Euro II buses, which was completed in 2009, has sharply reduced the emissions of particulates by 90% and all Euro II buses will perform near Euro IV standard

  • Use Near Zero Sulphur diesel in the whole fleet and check emissions regularly to improve and control emissions

  • Adopt the Pozilock refuelling system with auto-lock that prevents spillage of diesel and reduces wastage

  • Treat and recycle 70% of water used in bus washing

  • Retread around 8,000 used tyres every year to extend the life of a bus tyre from seven months to two years, gare all scrapped bus tyres to a designated contractor for recycling to reduce solid waste disposal

  • Implement waste treatment system in which waste oil is stored at centralized tanks by pipe-work and collected by an oil recycler; install pre-treatment facilities in depots to minimize environmental impact of wastes arising from operation

  • Conducted trials of replacing all fluorescent lighting by LED lighting in the depots aiming to save half of the electricity consumption

  • Adopt eco-friendly operation management: committed to deploying eco-friendly buses to serve busy urban areas; Bus-Bus Interchange discount schemes and rationalisation of bus routes and stops are implemented to reduce the number of bus trips passing through busy districts; Provide comprehensive training courses to indoctrinate bus captains the "safe, comfort and eco-friendly" driving skills with proper driving manners

  • Cooperate closely with the Transport Department to streamline bus services through the yearly Route Development Programme to enhance operational efficiency of the bus network and air quality
