ACCA Charity Fun Day (14 December 2003)

NWS Holdings was a second time major sponsor of ACCA Hong Kong's Charity Fun Day, and joined the rickshaw race with seven bus captains from New World First Bus Services Limited as representatives. Our volunteers also enjoyed many other activities of the event, including a parade and fun fair.

In the Trailwalker 2003 organized by Oxfam, General Security (HK) Limited finished the 100-kilometre route in 26hr 28min, over three hours better than its performance in 2002, while NWS Engineering Limited and Urban Group made it 35hr 32min and 32hr 8min, respectively.

A stair run was organized by Dalian New World Plaza in which participants walked up 37 storeys and raised a total of RMB150,000 for the disabled.

At a seminar and workshop organized by Social Welfare Department, Ms Maria Cheung, Manager - Corporate Communication of NWS Holdings was invited to deliver a presentation titled Smart & Efficient Administration in Staff Volunteering Programme.

NWS Holdings demonstrated their teamwork and creativity in the Departmental Dress Special Competition on the annual Dress Casual Day, a day before the National Day. Project Administration Department of NWS Infrastructure Management Limited beat other departments with its exceptional sports look. Honourable mentions went to Corporate Communication Department whose staff dressed as cowboy and cowgirls, and Finance and Company Secretary Department of the Corporate Office with special facemasks. A total of HK$6,000 were raised for Hong Kong Community Chest.

Two volunteers of Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (Management) Limited ("HML") joined the Two International Finance Centre Stair Run 2003 to raise fund for the Raleigh International Hong Kong for conservation and community services. Apart from raising fund, Ms Cindy Chow Wai Ching won the Champion in the women category.

A total of 16 NWS Volunteer Alliance members supported Po Leung Kuk to sell mooncakes for charity in Causeway Bay on 6 September 2003.

NWS Holdings was joined by Ming Pao in publishing a SARS commemorative book for charity sale to raise fund for families and children affected by SARS. Over the past two months, nearly 2,000 books were sold and more than HK$63,000 was raised for Project Blossom.

Invited by the Social Welfare Department, Ms Maria Cheung, Manager - Corporate Communication, presented a topic "How to promote staff's enthusiasm and participation" in the "Making a Difference" seminar-cum-workshop to 35 corporations which are keen on volunteering.

Urban Premier Walkers was just established in October 2002 by Urban Property Management Limited ("UPML"), but for the past few months, it has been very enthusiastic about charitable events. In late 2002, it participated in the Trailwalker 2002 organized by Oxfam Hong Kong, while in February 2003, it joined the Green Power Hike of Green Power.
