To raise fund for the Elder Ring and personal emergency link service, five of
our volunteers joined others to participate in the flag day for Senior Citizen
Home Safety Association. |
| Hairstyling for the elderly (6 August & 17 September 2003)
After providing haircutting service for the psychiatric patients in Pamela Youde
Nethersole Eastern Hospital, three bus captains of NWFB visited the elderly
centre of Care & Services at North Point and Tsuen Wan to cut hair for some
20 elderly. Their commitment to serve on their day-off has been reported in the
media and sets a role model for all volunteers. |
| Mid-Autumn celebration with the elderly (6 September 2003)
Despite the bad weather outside, 27 volunteers played games and enjoyed shows
with over 200 elderly at the the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration organized by
YWCA Ming Yue Elderly Community Centre. |
| Packing Hygiene Kits for the Elderly (12-26 April 2003)
Since Atypical Pneumonia poses an unprecedented crisis to Hong Kong citizens,
NWS Volunteer Alliance feels strongly obliged to help prevent people from
contracting the virus. We joined Hong Kong Red Cross in its Campaign for
Helping the Vulnerable and the Needy to Prevent Atypical Pneumonia, in which
100,000 hygiene kits were delivered to those frail and singleton elderly. From
11 to 26 April 2003, our volunteers provided assistance in packing sterilizing
tablets, surgical masks, alcohol pads and SARS prevention guidelines into those
kits. |
| Po Leung Kuk New Year Banquet (19 February 2003)
Out of tight schedule, five volunteers from Millennium Engineering Ltd assisted
in The Po Leung Kuk Hong Kong's banquet for some 1,000 senior citizens in
celebration of the Lunar New Year. Throughout the event, they helped in crowd
control, taking care of the elderly and pushing their wheelchairs. |
| NWFB's donation to the elderly (30 January 2003)
As Lunar New Year's special greetings, limited edition "Greeting-Go-Round"
Fortune Boxes of New World First Bus Services Limited ("NWFB") were sent to the
elderly and the disabled people at the Riviera Elderly Centre (Tsuen Wan and
North Point branches), St James' Settlement and YWCA Ming Yue Multi-Service
Centre for the Elderly, respectively. |
